CMYSA ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
All individuals responsible for a team and all parents/spectators shall support the referee. Failure to do so will undermine the referee's authority and has the potential of creating a hostile environment for the players, the referee, and all the other participants and spectators. Consequently, CMYSA has adopted the following rule for all Inhouse and Travel Games (both home and away):
1. No one, except the players, is to speak to the referee during or after the game. Exceptions: Coaches may ask questions before the game, call for substitutions and point out emergencies during the game, or respond to the referee if addressed directly.
2. Absolutely no disputing calls, during or after the game, no remarks to the referee to watch certain players or attend to rough play. NO YELLING at the referee, EVER, and no criticism, sarcasm, harassment, intimidation, or feedback of any kind during or after the game. Complaints regarding a referee’s performance should be addressed in writing to the Referee Coordinator.
3. Violators at any CMYSA game – Inhouse or Travel - may be ejected and are subject to disciplinary action by the CMYSA Sportsmanship Review & Disciplinary Committee. CMYSA will investigate and respond to incidents reported at games and action will be taken for anyone found to be in violation of the Zero Tolerance Policy.
4. If coaches or parents/spectators have questions regarding particular calls, rules, or a referee’s performance, or wish to give positive or negative feedback regarding a specific referee, please contact the CMYSA Referee Coordination in writing for the game in question. DO NOT DIRECTLY ADDRESS THE REFEREE.
Procedures for Dealing With Violations of CMYSA Codes of Conduct
Any reports (Travel or Inhouse) from referees, coaches, players or parents (home or opposing teams) regarding violations of the behaviors contained in CMYSA Parent Code of Conduct, CMYSA Coaches Code of Conduct or CMYSA Player Code of Conduct officially filed in writing with the CMYSA Board will be handled as follows:
1. The CMYSA Sportsmanship Review & Disciplinary Committee, at its discretion, may recommend that a parent (and potentially their child) be suspended from participation in league activities while the Committee investigates and contemplates any action.
2. The Committee will verify details of the complaint, including interviewing the person or persons who have made the complaint, as well as any witnesses who may have observed the incident. The Committee will send a letter to the parent involved, asking for his/her version of the incident. The parent will have 7 days to respond in writing to the Committee.
4. The Committee will meet within 14 days to determine if disciplinary action should be taken. If the allegation is determined to be correct, the Committee may recommend that the parent (and possibly their player) be subject to immediate suspension from the league for a period of time to be decided on. Parent suspension will consist of not being permitted on any fields, games or practices where CMYSA players are participating. The Committee will submit its recommendation to the CMYSA Board for approval. If the suspension is approved by the Board, the parent will be notified verbally and in writing of the Board's decision. Based on the nature and severity of the offense, and depending on whether this represents a repeat offense, disciplinary actions for the parent and potentially their player may range from:
- Official warning / clarification of expected conduct moving forward
- Partial season suspension (1-3 games)
- Suspension for the remainder of the Fall and/or Spring Season
- One year suspension
- Permanent ban from coaching in CMYSA
